Summary
Front view of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cartonnage" class="extiw" title="w:cartonnage">cartonnage</a> mask depicting the jackal headed god, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis" class="extiw" title="w:Anubis">Anubis</a>. Painted surface, with blue/black and white lines decorating the head-dress. Raised vertical ears, and long nose.Used by priests during <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/mummification" class="extiw" title="w:mummification">mummification</a> rituals. Fragmentary, but all pieces present. The only cartonnage Anubis Mask in existence and one of only two Anubis masks existant - the other a ceramic mask is in <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RPM_%C3%84gypten_186.jpg" title="File:RPM Ägypten 186.jpg">Hildesheim, Germany</a>. Mask likely to be worn by a male priest playing the part of Anubis in a temple during mummification or burial ritual. Probably buried with the priest who had worn it in life.
