Summary

Mark the Evangelist, image 21 of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Codex_Aureus_of_Lorsch" class="extiw" title="w:en:Codex Aureus of Lorsch">Codex Aureus of Lorsch</a> or Lorsch Gospels, presumably written in the scriptorium of the Lorsch Abbey (Hofschule Karls des Großen), Germany.

This Carolingian manuscript was stolen 1622 from the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Bibliotheca_Palatina" class="extiw" title="w:en:Bibliotheca Palatina">Bibliotheca Palatina</a> in Heidelberg, during the Thirty Years' War. In order to be easy to sell, the codex was broken in four parts:

  • First written part - Gospels of Matthew and Mark, preliminary matter and canon tables
