A painting of a mother hen and her chicks, by an anonymous Chinese artist of the <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Song_Dynasty" title="Category:Song Dynasty">Song Dynasty</a> (960–1279). The later <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ming_Dynasty" title="Category:Ming Dynasty">Ming Dynasty</a> Emperor Chenghua (r. 1464–1487) inscribed the written euology at the top of the painting, where he describes his fondness for this Song Dynasty era artwork. The use of a black opaque background is a rarity in Chinese painting.
