The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salford_Quays" class="extiw" title="w:Salford Quays">Salford Quays</a>, the former Manchester Docks on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Ship_Canal" class="extiw" title="w:Manchester Ship Canal">Manchester Ship Canal</a> have been redeveloped. They played host in 2010, to a one <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_water_swimming" class="extiw" title="w:Open water swimming">Open water swimming</a> event,the British Gas Great Swim, from No 9 Basin, through the Mariners Canal to the Salford Watersports Centre in Basin 8. Water temperature 14.5C. Above 3000 participants. Puple wave starts.
