Summary

Transdev Blazefield's 'Ideas in Action' bus 2706 (reg. Y706 HRN) seen on Eastgate in Leeds, West Yorkshire, from the top deck of a First Leeds X98 service. It's a 2001 built Volvo B7TL with Plaxton President bodywork, new to the Burnley & Pendle subsidiary. It's seen here in its new role as a test bed working the Harrogate & District subsidiary's flagship route 36 service - a few months previously in May 2010 it emerged from an extensive refurbishment which gave it various prototype layouts and features. The intention was to gather feedback from users of the route, to then inform which one to use when refurbishing the route's existing fleet of buses. Those were 2004 built high spec buses, but which according to the company were "showing their age" by 2010. Instead of replacing them, the company decided to go down the refurbishment route, hence this bus was created. Reflecting its role, the bus carries this special livery and the message "we're trying out some new features to see how we can make bus travel better for the future". The project included a market survey element, which saw the company win the 'Making Buses a Better Choice' category at the 2011 UK Bus Awards. [1].
