Kanna Talli or Kannatalli (English title: Mother; Telugu: కన్నతల్లి) is a 1953 Telugu Drama film directed and produced by K. S. Prakash Rao.[1] It is simultaneously released in Tamil with title Petra Thai (Tamil: பெற்ற தாய்). G. Varalakshmi played the title role of the Mother (Telugu meaning of Talli). This is the debut film for Telugu popular singer P. Suseela and actress Rajasulochana. The film later made as Blockbuster Hindi film Mother India in 1957.[2]
The plot
Shanta (G. Varalaxmi ) and Chalapathi (R. Nageshwara Rao) are blessed with two children Ramu (ANR) and Shankar (Nambiar). Chalapathi runs away abandoning the family due to financial problems. Shanta with the help of Ramu takes care of the family. Ramu sends his brother to nearby town for further studies. Ramu sends his dowry money to Shankar for his studies. Shankar spends all the money on bad ways of life. Gowri (Vasantha) a village belle girl falls in love with him. But Shankar is already having a girlfriend. One day when Shanta visits Shankar and that same time he kills his girl friend and runs away. To protect her son Shanta take the blame and goes to jail. She requests Ramu to marry Shankar with Gowri. Shankar repents for his mistakes and turns a good humanbeing.
