Samuel Ryan Jr.
Samuel Ryan Jr. (March 13, 1824 – March 26, 1907) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Biography
Ryan was born in Sackets Harbor, New York, in 1824.[1][2] He moved with his parents to Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1826. In 1853, Ryan established the Appleton Crescent in Appleton, Wisconsin, and served as its editor and publisher.[1] During the American Civil War, Ryan served with the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Regiment with the rank of sergeant.[1] He was married three times: to Laura E. Knappen in 1847, to Calista M. Crane in 1853, and later to Martha S. Driggs.[1] Martha's sister, Mary, was married to William J. Fisk. Ryan died of pneumonia on March 26, 1907.[1]
Political career
Ryan was a member of the Assembly in 1865. From 1865 to 1873, he was an Outagamie County, Wisconsin, judge.[1] In 1895, Ryan was appointed U.S. Consul in St. John's, Newfoundland.[1] He was a Democrat.
