1983 English cricket season

The 1983 English cricket season was the scene for the third Cricket World Cup which was won by India. It also saw New Zealand tour for a four test series which included the first New Zealand win in England. Yorkshire won their first major trophy since 1969.

In Minor Counties cricket, the MCCA Knockout Trophy was inaugurated.

New Zealand played 4 tests against England following the World Cup. Although they were heavily beaten in 3 of these, they won the second test at Headingly. This was New Zealand's first test victory in England after 29 attempts. It was New Zealand's first away test win in over 13 years.
