1st Wave is a commercial-free Internet radio station provided by XM Satellite Radio. Its general content consists of alternative music from the eighties, new wave music from the seventies to eighties, and other forms of "classic alternative". The station is named as if there were later musical crazes or movements called "new wave".
The internet player can be biased toward synthesizer-based music such as synthpop or guitar based music such as punk rock. It can also be biased toward American or European artists.
