The 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (2024 WJHC) was the 48th edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship. It began on 26 December 2023 and the gold medal game was played on 5 January 2024. This marks the seventh time that Sweden is hosting the WJHC, and the first time in Gothenburg. Canada entered the tournament as two-time defending champions.
Contents
Background
On 14 March 2019 it was announced that Gothenburg would be the host city for 2022.[1] However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, previous World Junior Championships were relocated and it was announced that Edmonton and Red Deer would host the 2022 tournament, and that Gothenburg would be shifted from 2022 to 2024.[2]

The Division I Group A tournament was held in Budapest, Hungary, from 10 to 16 December 2023. Kazakhstan won promotion to the top division for the 2025 World Junior Championships, their first apperance since the 2020 edition of the tournament.
