Abby Tomlinson (born 1998) is a British political activist. She was one of the founders and the leader of the Milifandom, a campaign to support Ed Miliband during the United Kingdom general election, 2015. She has also written for The Guardian,[1] the Daily Mirror,[2] and Huffington Post UK.

Background

Tomlinson is from St Helens in Merseyside and is a student.[3] She has made a successful application to Newnham College, Cambridge and will start her study of Human, Social, and Political Sciences in October 2016, if the conditions of her offer are met.[4]

Political activism

During the general election campaign in 2015, Tomlinson was one of the key founders of the Milifandom movement, and was identified as the 'leader'. After his defeat, Miliband personally thanked the campaign. Tomlinson describes herself as an intersectional feminist.[5] After the election, former Conservative MP Louise Mensch was accused of harassment by John Prescott after sending dozens of tweets to Tomlinson, calling on her to apologise for claiming to be the founder of Milifandom.[3][6]

Tomlinson has subsequently written for The Guardian and the New Statesman and called for the lowering of the voting age to 16.[7] She has started a YouTube channel called WestminsterAbby interviewing politicians such as Jeremy Corbyn and Andy Burnham.[8] In 2015 she appeared on Channel 4 News to endorse Andy Burnham in the Labour leadership election.[9][10]
