Ashutosh (born 1965) is a former Indian TV journalist, turned politician of the Aam Aadmi Party. He is the spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party. He was previously associated with IBN7, of TV18 group, as Managing Editor.[1] He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk against Kapil Sibal of Congress and Harsh Vardhan of the BJP.[2] He garnered more votes than Kapil Sibal of the Congress, but lost out to Dr Harsh Vardhan of the BJP.

Early life and education

Ashutosh was born as Ashutosh Gupta in 1965 in Varanasi, where his father was an income tax officer. He graduated in science from Allahabad University. He earned an M. Phil. (Soviet Studies) and M.A. (Philosophy & International Studies) from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi.[3]

During Mandal Commission protests of 1990, Ashutosh dropped his last name in a bid to dissociate himself with his caste identity in public life.[citation needed]

Career

He was selected as a recipient the prestigious Dag Hammerskjöld Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1997[citation needed] which is given every year by the UN Correspondents Association to three to four young journalists from Asian, African or Latin American countries.

Politics

Ashutosh joined the Aam Aadmi Party on 9 January 2014.[4] He ran for the Lok Sabha in 2014 from the Chandni Chowk constituency.[5] He lost to Harsh Vardhan, coming in second with 31% of the vote. He was seen crying on TV after a farmer committed suicide at an AAP rally.[citation needed]. He was slapped by Kanshiram a BSP(Bahujan Samaj Party) leader.[6]

Books

Ashutosh has written a book on Anna Hazare's August 2011 movement, against Corruption. The book is titled Anna: 13 Days That Awakened India. A new book named 'Mukhote Ka Rajdharm' was released on 17 February 2015.
