Danio pulcher also known as the Blue-redstripe danio is a tropical fish belonging to the Danio genus in the family Cyprinidae. Originating from Southeast Asia in southern Thailand, Chantaburi province, this fish is rarely found in the fish-keeping hobby. It tends to be smaller than the pearl danio and has a distinctive wide, luminous orange stripe which diminishes under the dorsal. While still rare, it is known to hobbyists as danio blue-redstripe. When originally discovered by Hugh McCormick Smith in 1931, it was named Danio pulcher, which translates as beautiful danio,[1] but it was later synonymised with D. abolineatus. Scholars are currently undecided as to whether it is a separate species from D. abolineatus, but the majority concur that it is not. Danio pulcher is a valid species not a variety of D. albolineatus.[2]
