Cecil Alonzo Cushman (December 15, 1890 – November 3, 1959) was an American football player and college football and basketball coach. He was a member of the 1912 Texas A&M Aggies football team.[1]
He served as the head football coach (1920) and head men's basketball coach (1920) at Texas A&M University–Commerce.[2]
Cushman was the head football (1920–1921) and men's basketball coach (1921–1923) at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.[3]
He capped his career with lengthy stints as the head football and men's basketball coach at the University of Redlands in Redlands, California until his retirement in 1952. He was recognized as the inventor of the "kicking toe," a special shoe designed to aid "straight-toe" style placekickers in American football.[4]
