The Council for a Beautiful Israel (Hebrew: <templatestyles src="Script/styles_hebrew.css" />המועצה לישראל יפה‎), was formed in 1968, by Aura Herzog, who remains its international president. It was established by Knesset vote, as a non-profit association, in order to do the following:

  • Environmental education
  • Local environmental action
  • 'Green' urban projects
  • National Environmental campaigns
  • Envirnomental 'Beauty' competitions

It was established as Israel's first environmental association, and remains the only one centred on urban issues.

Jerusalem educational center

In 2010 the group started to build a new educational center in Kiryat HaLeom for Environmental Studies.

Volunteers

Most of the Council's work is done by dedicated volunteers, including lawyers, botanists, architects and a selection of other professions. Hundreds of children also take part annually. These volunteers are known as 'Guardians of a Beautiful Israel'. Every year the president of Israel presents outstanding members with the title of 'Creators of a beautiful Israel'.[1]
