Deniliquin Shire is a local government area in the Riverina region of south-western New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is the only rural local government area in New South Wales left consisting only of a rural town.[citation needed]
The Mayor of Deniliquin Shire Council is Cr. Lindsay Renwick, an independent politician.[2]
Council
Current composition and election method
Deniliquin Council is composed of seven Councillors elected proportionally as a single ward. All Councillors are elected for a fixed four-year term of office. The Mayor is elected by the Councillors at the first meeting of the Council. The most recent election was due to be held on 8 September 2012. However, only seven candidates, being the below, nominated for election. There being no additional candidates, the election was uncontested.[3] The makeup of the Council is as follows:[4]
