FIBA Europe Cup is the 3rd tier level transnational men's professional club basketball competition in Europe. Established in 2015, it is organized by FIBA Europe and has the aim to take the place of Eurocup (organised by Euroleague Basketball) as the second-tier competition in Europe, as FIBA requests the National Federations to commit to register their teams in this competition.

History

On June 30, 2015, FIBA announced it would start a new league to compete with Euroleague Basketball's Eurocup.[1] The new competition, that replaced EuroChallenge, was supposed to be open for up to 100 teams to enter.[1]

The first FIBA Europe Cup game was played on October 21, 2015, when Donar Groningen beat Egis Körmend 78–71.

Format

In the Regular season, all teams are divided in groups of four. The best two of each group, along with the best third-placed teams, advance to the Round of 32. In the Round of 32 all teams will once again play in groups of four, starting from the Round of 16 a knock-out tournament is played, concluding with a Final Four.
