Force protection (FP): Preventive measures taken to mitigate hostile actions against Department of Defense personnel (to include family members), resources, facilities, and critical information.[1] Force Protection was created after the Beirut barrack bombings in Lebanon, 1983. The US Military had become predictable, and so it allowed both trucks to breach the perimeter and detonate. Force Protection was implemented as a way to never allow this to happen again. Force Protection itself is changing protective tactics so that it's never predictable.[2]
