Formal Gold (foaled April 20 1993) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse and the son of Breeders Cup Classic winner Black Tie Affair. He is also a 2 time Grade 1 stakes winner.

3-year old season

As a three-year-old, Formal Gold won his first 4 races but then lost the next 3. This included a 5th in the Breeders Cup Classic and 2 second place finishes.[1]

4 year old season

To start off his season Formal Gold won in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap. He was 6th in the Santa Anita Handicap, and 5th in the Dubai World Cup. After another defeat Formal Gold won the Brooklyn Handicap. Formal Gold won his last 2 races with a win in the Philip H. Iselin Handicap and a victory in the Woodward.

Career and earnings

When his career ended Formal Gold had 16-8-4-1 and a total $1,533,600 in earnings.[2]
