History
Gijón Baloncesto was established in 1982, after taking over the franchise of another local team, Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga, who was undergoing financial difficulties. Gijón Baloncesto played in the top Spanish competition, the ACB league, during seasons 1995–96, and 1999 to 2002.
In 2009, the club ceased in activity and was dissolved.
