Athletics
Irmo's sports teams compete as the Yellow Jackets and participate in the 4A division, the highest classification of the SCHSL.[1] The school has won 66 team state championships.[2]
Although Irmo had been the "Yellow Jackets" for many years, in 1978 a new logo was introduced. Prior to 1978, Irmo used a yellow jacket image for a logo, similar to most schools that are known as yellow jackets.
Football
The Irmo Yellow Jacket football team won a state championship in 1980.[3]
Boys' soccer
The Irmo boys' soccer team is the most successful athletic program that the school has produced. The Jackets are the most successful team in South Carolina history, with an .897 win percentage, the 4th-best overall win percentage in the nation.[4] The Yellow Jackets have won 15 state championships and appeared in 25 state championship games since 1978,[5] boasting 2 4-peats during this time span. They have also been crowned National Champions by the NSCAA multiple times in their history.[citation needed]
