History
James Cook High School was opened in February 1968.
Notable Alumni & Teachers
- Mr Ben Claxton, a current Physical Education teacher at the school was a member of successful New Zealand band, Mumsdollar.
- James Cook High School has sported many high Profile athletes over the years including Joe Rokocoko, Joe Galuvao, Jerome Kaino, Lelia Masaga and Scott Dixon
- James Cook was also known as a basketball powerhouse in South Auckland, producing NBL star Prem Krishna.
- Samoan soul songstress Marina Davis also attended James Cook during the 1990s
- Lavina Williams and Maybelle Galuvao are Ma-V-Elle, South Auckland's own soul sisters
