Jonathan Bane (born September 4, 1991) is an American football quarterback who is currently a free agent.[1] He played college football at Dakota Wesleyan University. He first enrolled at Rogers High School in Rogers, Texas before transferring to Temple High School in Temple, Texas. Bane has also been a member of the Richmond Raiders and Bloomington Edge.

Early years

Bane first played high school football for the Rogers Eagles of Rogers High School before transferring to play for the Temple Wildcats of Temple High School.[2][3][4] He left Rogers his junior year due to a disagreement between the head football coach and athletic director over the treatment of Eagles players. He was ruled ineligible for varsity sports for a year by the University Interscholastic League. Bane then played on Temple's junior varsity team and did not appear in any varsity games until the final contest of his senior season and an ensuing playoff game. He then signed to play football at Trinity Valley Community College.[5][6] He was in a car crash his senior year that severely hampered his ability to walk.[7][8] Bane was not in college his first year out of high school.[6]

College career

Bane played for the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers from 2010 to 2013. He threw for 1,920 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2010, 2,817 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2011, 2,157 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2012 and 2,330 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2013.[4] He completed 744 of 1,360 passes for 83 touchdowns and a school record 9,224 yards during his college career.[4][9] Bane set school records for passing yards in a game with 457, longest pass in a game with 99 yards and most passing yards in a season with 2,817.[10] He also earned Second Team All-GPAC honors in 2011 and Honorable Mention All-GPAC accolades in 2012 and 2013.[11][12][13]

Professional career

Richmond Raiders

Bane signed with the Richmond Raiders of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) in May 2014 and played for the team from 2014 to 2015.[14][4] He was named the PIFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 after completing 221 passes for 2,759 yards and 55 touchdowns.[15][16] He also garnered First Team All-PIFL accolades.[16] Bane helped the Raiders advance to the PIFL championship game in 2015, where they lost to the Columbus Lions.[15][17]

Bloomington Edge

Bane was signed by the Bloomington Edge of Champions Indoor Football (CIF) in October 2015.[18] He was later selected in the 2016 Major League Football Draft.[19][20]

Tampa Bay Storm

Bane was assigned to the Tampa Bay Storm on February 22, 2016.[4][21] He made his AFL debut on April 1, 2016 against the Orlando Predators in relief of starter Adam Kennedy, completing five of eight passes for 65 yards with a touchdown and an interception.[22] He made his first career AFL start on May 1, 2016, completing 21 of 38 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-27 loss to the Jacksonville Sharks.[23][24] On May 12, 2016, Bane was placed on recallable reassignment.
