Younger is an American comedy-drama television series based on the Pamela Redmond Satran novel of the same name. The series stars Sutton Foster as the lead character, with Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor, Nico Tortorella, Hilary Duff, Molly Bernard and Peter Hermann co-starring in other main roles.[1] The Show is about a single mother who decides to take the chance to reboot her career and her love life as a 26-year old after being mistaken for being younger than she really is.

Liza Miller

A 40-year old suddenly single mother who tries to get back into the working world, only to find it’s nearly impossible to start at the bottom at her age. When a chance encounter with the sexy Josh, a young tattoo artist, convinces her that she looks younger than she is, Liza tries to pass herself off as 26 – with the help of a makeover, courtesy of her best friend Maggie. Armed with new confidence, she lands a job as an assistant to the temperamental Diana at Empirical Press, and teams up with her new 20-something co-worker Kelsey to make it the career of her dreams. Now she just has to make sure no one discovers her secret.
Kelsey Peters

Kelsey Peters is a strong and ambitious young book editor who takes Liza under her wing when she starts working at Empirical Press. Kelsey has no idea that Liza is 40, posing as a 26-year old. She has a boyfriend named Thad, but she cheated on him with the handsome Swedish writer Anton Bjornberg. She lives with Lauren and her parents.
Maggie
- Played by Debi Mazar
Maggie is a 40-something lesbian artist, who is Liza's roommate and closest friend. She is initially the only one to know Liza's secret. When Josh, a young guy at a bar, thinks Liza is in her twenties instead of her forties, Maggie convinces her to pose as a 26-year old in order to reboot her career – and her love life.
Diana Trout
- Played by Miriam Shor
Diana Trout aka "Trout Pout," is the temperamental head of marketing at the publishing house where Liza just got a job by pretending to be 26 years old – 14 years younger than she actually is. Diana always says that she is 41 years old, but is actually 43 at the start of the series. She has a strong romantic interest in Charles, but he doesn't reciprocate.
Josh
- Played by Nico Tortorella
Josh is a hot tattoo artist who mistakes Liza for being younger than she is. When she doesn’t dissuade him from that notion, Liza decides to take the chance to reboot her career – and her love life – as a 26-year old. They begin dating but break up at one point because she catches him going to bed with his ex-girlfriend, but they fix things. Josh hates reading, but he reads Japanese manga occasionally. He never finished high school. Josh lives in Corent with his two friends Gabe and Roman who are both video game addicts. He is also a musician. He learns Liza's secret at the end of Season 1. After some time to think, he decides his feelings for her are still strong and he wants to continue their relationship.
Lauren Heller
- Played by Molly Bernard
Lauren Heller is Kelsey's Jewish best friend. She works as journalist at "Hector and Dorf". She will later become a close friend to Liza and Maggie. She is hooked on social networks, and sometimes uses her strong computer skills to get Liza and/or Kelsey out of a jam. She is very funny and very open to people, and is also bisexual. She does not know Liza's secret. During the episode "Hot Mitzvah", she created her own Bat Mitzvah which she named "Hot Mitzvah". She said during this episode that Kelsey, Liza, Thad, Josh and Maggie are her closest friends.
Charles Brooks
- Played by Peter Hermann
Charles Brooks is a senior editor at Empirical Press. Diana falls in love with him. Charles has two daughters: Bianca and Nicole. He became Liza's close friend and seems to find her fascinating, especially when she demonstrates a wisdom beyond her "26" years.

Caitlin Miller

Caitlin is Liza and David's daughter. At the beginning of the series, Caitlin is in India to study and meet a boy, Arjun, who charms her. Caitlin is unaware that her mother is posing as a 26-year-old woman, nor that she is dating a man half of her age. In spite of liking India, she would like very much to return to New York. According to Caitlin, her mother is very protective and calls her every second but finds that she hardly calls her because Liza is often with Josh.
Thad Steadman
- Played by Dan Amboyer
Thad is Kelsey's boyfriend. According to Liza, Kelsey is a strong woman who becomes passive when she is around Thad. Liza believes Thad should pay more attention to Kelsey. Thad is not interested in hearing Kelsey talk about work. During his first meeting with Liza, he asked her multiple questions and found that she is "a little bit shady". Kelsey cheats on Thad with the Swedish editor Anton Bjornberg and admits everything during the episode Sk8. Shortly after proposing to Kelsey and becoming her fiancée, Thad is killed by a falling construction beam in the Season 2 episode "Secrets & Liza".
Anton Bjornberg
- Played by Thorbjørn Harr
Anton Bjornberg is a married Swedish editor who appears for the first time in the episode IRL. Kelsey likes his books and the work he is doing. He signs a contract for Empirical Publishing. He and Kelsey have an affair.
David Miller
- Played by Paul Fitzgerald
Liza's ex husband and Caitlin's father. He cheated on Liza with a younger woman. Because of his gambling addiction, Liza must look for a job to support herself and her daughter.
Gabe
- Played by Jon Gabrus
Gabe is a friend and roommate of Josh. Gabe is very childish. In the episode Sk8 Josh reveals to Liza that Gabe and Roman broke the door of their room during a fight.
Roman
- Played by Jake Choi
Roman is another friend and roommate of Josh and like Gabe, he is also childish. During a fight, he and Gabe broke their bedroom door.
