Lichfield District Council is a non metropolitan district council, which covers the district of Lichfield in Staffordshire, England. It was formed in 1974 from Lichfield City Council and Lichfield Rural District Council.[1] The council offices are located at the District Council House on Frog Lane (Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found.), in the centre of Lichfield.
Lichfield District Council is amongst the top performing councils nationally. In 2004 the audit commission informed the council that they were a good council and in 2007 they confirmed that they are getting better at managing their finances.[2]
Since 2011, Lichfield has formed part of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership along with neighbouring authorities Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Redditch, Solihull, Tamworth and Wyre Forest.

Political Control
The council is majority Conservative controlled[3] and the leader since 2010 has been Mike Wilcox,[4] who succeeded David Smith.[3]
Before May 2011, the second largest group was the Liberal Democrat and Independent Alliance set up after the 2007 elections. They were made up of Liberal Democrat and independent councillors.[5]
At the 2011 elections the Conservatives retained overall control. The Liberal Democrats and Independent councillors lost all of their 7 seats at the election. Of the 56 seats, the council is divided between Conservatives (46) and Labour (10).[6]
