Lindsay Street is a street connecting Chowringhee Avenue with Mirza Ghalib Street(previously known as Free School Street) in Calcutta.

New Market, Globe Cinema, Badshah restaurant bar and Hotel Lindsay are some important landmarks on this street.

New Market

Also known as Hogg Market, it used to be an upscale shopping area. It houses the famous Jewish Bakery, Nahoum. During Christmas, new market stores sell Christmas ornaments, fake Christmas Trees and fruit cakes which are traditional Christmas Day breakfast for Kolkatans of all religions. To reduce congestion in the area, an underground parking lot has been built there. There is also an underground shopping mall. Today, New Market lost most of its glory to modern shopping malls that have come across Kolkata.

Street side snacks

On the narrow street next to Globe movie theater, you will find many street food vendors selling various tasty snacks. They include Bhel Puri, Phuchka, Chicken rolls, Alu Kabli, Koolfi, Alu Tikia.

Shopping

There are many outlets on this short street selling dresses, shoes and other goods. On the sidewalk, you will find vendors selling high quality leather belts for $3 to $4 each.
