The richest people of Ukraine 2009 can be ascertained from various sources. The previous year was a bad one for the wealthy, especially so for Ukrainians. They lost an average of 75% of their assets, while the world average declined only 23% in the past 12 months, according to Forbes magazine. The threshold to qualify as one of the 50 richest Ukrainians dropped from $271 million in 2008 to $65 million in 2009.[citation needed]

Forbes magazine

In March, Forbes unveiled its annual list of billionaires. It included four citizens of Ukraine. The highest ranked was Viktor Pinchuk, whose net worth of $2.6 billion tied him for 246th[1] down from the previous year's $5 billion and 203rd position. Forbes noted that the year before, the businessman sold Ukrsotsbank to the Italian UniCredit Group for $2.2 billion.

Rinat Akhmetov, the 2008 richest Ukrainian, dropped from $7.3 billion to $1.8 billion to tie for 397th place,[2] while Ihor Kolomoyskyy went from $4.2 billion to $1.2 billion and a shared rank of 601st,[3] and Gennadiy Bogolyubov from $4.0 billion to $1.1 billion, tied for 647th position.[4]

Focus magazine

In March, the Ukrainian Focus magazine published its list of the 150 richest Ukrainians, which included foreign nationals if their main assets were in Ukraine. The combined wealth of those listed in 2008 exceeded $100 billion, but in 2009, they amounted to little more than $ 30 billion.

Korrespondent magazine

On June 12, 2009, Korrespondent published its list of the 50 richest Ukrainians. This list disagreed with Forbes, placing Akhmetov ahead of Igor Kolomoisky, followed by Pinchuk and Bogolyubov.[5]

The Party of Regions remained the richest socio-political organization, with 13 members on the list of the top 50, with an estimated total net worth of $11.4 billion.[citation needed] Its nearest pursuer, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, placed five members on the list with a collective $2.45 billion.[citation needed]
