The winning club qualifies to represent the county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship.

The current champions are Killoe Young Emmets (Emmet Óg) winning their 11th Senior Championship title in 2015. While Longford Slashers have won more titles than any other club, Clonguish hold the record for most consecutive wins, with four in a row in 1962, '63, '64 and '65.

Research Notes

  • In the Roll of Honour, the titles of Longford Slashers, Longford Wanderers and Longford Leo Caseys are all recorded separately because they were separate and different clubs. Longford Slashers was formed in 1954 as a result of the amalgamation of Longford Wanderers and Whiterock Slashers to form a new club whose titles are recorded separately as 'Longford Slashers'.
  • In the Roll of Honour, the titles won by Fr Manning Gaels and Éire Óg (Young Irelands) are recorded here as one tally. They are not combined with the titles won separately by Drumlish (1927, 28, 32, 37, 39, 40, 43, 45) and Ballinamuck 98's (1920). For much of the period between 1890 and the early 1950s, Drumlish and Ballinamuck existed as separate and individual clubs; in fact they played each other in the County Final of 1927. Young Irelands (later renamed Éire Óg) was then established as an joint Drumlish-Ballinamuck team, and when they went out of existence in 1967, Ballinamuck re-emerged briefly as a junior club. The establishment of Fr Manning Gaels in 1969 merged all Drumlish & Ballinamuck teams and this unified club has existed since. This roll of honour is for clubs, not parishes hence the separation referenced above.
  • Clonbroney won the 1919 Championship as Clonbroney Camlin Rovers. The club was renamed Sean Connolly's in the late 1920's.
  • 1919 Championship: It was reported previously that Clonbroney won the 1917 Championship decider, however research in 2014 has proven factually that no championship was played in 1917 for a number of reasons including the state of the country and the Spanish Flu outbreak. Clonbroney actually beat Killoe in the 1919 decider which had been previously attributed to Clonguish. Further research shows that Clonguish won the league title in 1919, not the Championship. Clonguish would win their first Championship title in 1962.
  • 1912 Championship: The 1912 title had previously been attributed to Killoe Young Emmets, but research in 2014 has proven that no 1912 Championship took place, and the recorded championship activity played in that year was in fact the delayed 1911 Championship final between Killoe and Edgeworthstown. The championship title count for Killoe has been amended accordingly.
  • The team/club names shown above reflects the actual team/club names at the time of winning each County Championship. Some clubs have merged or renamed in the years since, but the record below reflects the actual details from the year the title was won for historic accuracy purposes.
  • Full research notes and year-by-year county final results and details can be found in the 'Honours' section of the Longford GAA Website at www.longfordgaa.ie.
