Floating solar power station
In early 2017, the President Maithripala Sirisena and the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya proposed a 100 megawatt floating solar photovoltaic power station to be build over 500 acres (2.0 km2), or 2% of the Maduru Oya Reservoir.[2][3]
Following the subsequent cabinet approval, the Ministry of Science and Technology has allocated Rs. 80 million (about US$ 522,000) for obtaining of required equipment and materials for a prototype training project.[2]
