Mahil is a Jat gotra or clan found in the Northern Indian state of Punjab. The current village is Mahil Gaila. The Mahil name is sometimes written incorrectly as Mahal which is a different last name from another village.
Origin
The place of origin of the Mahils is supposed to have been Lahore. Due to not agreeing with the Mughal view on non-Muslims, they fell out with them and moved to the East Punjab, where they settled in several villages. It started with 4 brothers who's names were Goda, Mahil, Dessu, and Gaila.
