Miyazu (宮津市 Miyazu-shi?) is a city located in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on June 1, 1954.

As of May 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 21,512, with 8,360 households and a population density of 127.06 persons per km². The total area is 169.31 km².

History

An Imperial decree in July 1899 established Miyazu as an open port for trading with the United States and the United Kingdom.[1]

Located in Miyazu City is Amanohashidate or the "bridge to heaven", said to be one of Japan's three most beautiful sights. The naturally formed land bridge is 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) long and covered in pine trees.
