N.Flying (Korean: 엔플라잉, Japanese: エヌフライング) is a South Korean Rap rock boy band formed by FNC Entertainment.[1] The band consists of Kwon Kwang-jin (bass), Lee Seung-hyub (rhythm guitar, vocal, rap), Cha Hun (lead guitar) and Kim Jae-hyun (drums) and are currently active in Japan. The name ‘N.Flying’ is derived from the word ‘NEW’ and ‘Flying' which also means ‘new wings’ or ‘new escape’.[2] Their first release, Basket charted at number two on Oricon’s weekly Indies chart in Japan.[3]

History
Pre-debut
Back in 2009, before N.Flying was formed, Kwon Kwang-jin was the original bassist of labelmate CNBLUE. He, together with his bandmates, performed on streets and in live clubs in Japan.[4] On August 19, 2009, the band officially debuted with a full English mini album titled Now or Never. However, due to personal circumstances, Kwang-jin left the band in late September of 2009.[3] Kwangjin continued training under FNC Entertainment, meeting fellow trainees: Seung-hyub, Jae-hyun and Cha Hun in January 2011 and eventually forming another band together under the name ‘N.Flying’.
In 2013, Lee Seung-hyub appeared in Juniel’s music video titled Pretty Boy. In the MV, he acted as Juniel’s ideal guy that she saw at the café.[5]
Kim Jae-hyun is the younger brother of Kim Jae-kyung, the leader of South Korean girl group Rainbow.[6] On October 2, she tweeted a photo of N.Flying’s debut poster on her personal Twitter and told everyone that her younger brother is debuting in Japan.[7]
2013: Japanese debut with Basket and live gigs
N.Flying began their first performance at Shibuya CYCLONE on September 28.[8] On October 1, they released their first indie single album titled BASKET and performed as the opening act at FTISLAND’s ‘Replay’ Zepp tour.[8] BASKET peaked at No.2 on Tower Records weekly singles chart, No.2 on Oricon Indies weekly singles chart and No. 4 on Oricon daily singles chart.[9] The band continued doing live gigs at live clubs and also performed as opening act at CNBLUE’s ‘One More Time’ Arena Tour.[8] On November 14, N.Flying did their first one-man live at Live Space Halot.[8]
2014: One and Only, Buckaroo, Cheongdamdong 111 & delayed Korean debut
On January 1, N.Flying released their second Japanese indie single album titled One and Only.[10] The album hit No.1 on Tower Records chart on its second day of release.[8]
They made their first television appearance on the 7th episode of FNC’s reality drama, tvN’s Cheongdam-dong 111.[11] As a sequel of the show, N.Flying revealed their debut story in March 2014 which aired on the same channel.[12]
On January 29, it was announced that N.Flying had been appointed as the new endorsement model of Buckaroo Jeans.[13]
In the final episode of their reality show, 'Cheongdamdong111: N.Flying's Way of Becoming a Star', Seung-hyub was officially appointed as the leader of N.Flying.[14]
In March, they accompanied labelmate FTISLAND to be their opening act at the latter's Singapore concert.[15]
N.Flying was supposed to make their Korean debut in 2014 but it was delayed after the leader of the band, Seunghyub, injured his knee in July.[16]
2015: Korean debut with Awesome and new single - Lonely
On May 11, FNC Entertainment launched a teaser homepage for N.Flying's upcoming Korean debut.[17] It is also revealed that the band's 1st debut mini album 기가막혀(Awesome) will be released on May 20 along with the title song's music video.[18]
On May 12, FNC Entertainment announced that N.Flying will be releasing a Chinese version of Awesome simultaneously with the Korean version on May 20. A Japanese version of the mini album is also planned to be released in August.[19] On May 19, 2015, FNC Entertainment released the music video teaser for Awesome.[20] A day later, FNC Entertainment released the full music video which features Kim Seolhyun of girl group AOA in a lead role.[21]
On October 14, photos from the group's single were uploaded to N.Flying's official Facebook page. On October 15, N.Flying released individual member teasers for their first single album Lonely, that was released on October 22.
