NGC 489 is probably a spiral galaxy located about 115 million Light-years away from Earth in the constellation Pisces.[2][3] NGC 489's calulated velocity is 2507 km/s.[3] NGC 489 was discovered by German astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on December 22, 1862.[4] NGC 489 is also part of a group of galaxies called HDC 71.[5]

Physical Characteristics

Viewed from earth, NGC 489 appears edge-on to earth's line of sight.
