Nassau Community College (NCC) is a two-year college located in Garden City, New York, USA. The school is in Nassau County on Long Island. NCC maintains a nationwide reputation ease of transferability to four-year institutions.[1]

History

Buildings T and P

Nassau Community College was created as part of the State University of New York (SUNY) in 1959. When the college opened, on February 1, 1960, it had 632 students, and classes were held in an old courthouse. When Mitchel Air Force Base closed, the college obtained substantial property, including buildings to develop its new campus, on what is now known as Mitchel Field. (The government still retains some housing and other facilities in the vicinity of the Nassau campus.)[citation needed]

Academics

Nassau Community College annually awards the largest number of Associate degrees in the State of New York and the third largest number of Associate degrees for two-year public colleges in the United States. The strongest programs at Nassau Community College are mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, civil engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, and nursing.

NCC offers the A.A. degree in Liberal Arts focused on humanities and social sciences, specialized A.A. and A.S. transfer degrees, and A.A.S. degrees and certificate programs designed to serve immediate employment goals of students.[1] Intern/work-study opportunities with local, national and international businesses and organizations are available for students in both career and liberal arts programs.[1]

Nassau Community College Cultural Program

This organization within the Nassau Community College arranges theater productions on campus in the NCC College Center Building and also presents "Classics for Kids" which is for both parents and children.

Nassau Concerts 80's & 90's

Nassau Concerts was a student government club. In the 1980s Nassau Concerts was responsible for bringing new acts to campus such as, U2, R.E.M., The Ramones, The Cult, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath, Beastie Boys, and Butthole Surfers. Continuing in the 1990's with Live, Soul Asylum, Joan Jett and The Black Hearts, Blues Traveler, The Psychedelic Furs, They Might Be Giants, Jesus Jones, Cracker and Howard Jones among others. Nassau Concerts was also responsible for an annual Folk Festival. Concerts also worked closely with then alternative radio station, WLIR.
