Northeast Lakeview College is an unaccredited community college located in Universal City, Texas. It is the newest of the five colleges in the Alamo Community College District. The nickname for Northeast Lakeview is the Nighthawks and the mascot is Nico.

The college was established in 2007 after a successful $450 million bond election in November 2005. Classes began in August of 2008 with an enrollment of 4,000 students. Enrollment increased to 5,200 in 2009 and 6,511 in 2010 as new buildings provided available space. Projected full enrollment is 16,000.[1]

Accreditation Status

Northeast Lakeview has been granted a Spring 2016 site visit by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, an important step towards accreditation that the college had been unable to obtain prior to the April 2015 application.[2] Although NLC has yet to obtain regional accreditation through SACS-COC, NLC students are able to receive federal financial aid (this excludes veterans funding) and nearly all Texas universities accept transfer credits from NLC.[3]

Northeast Lakeview functions as an outreach site of San Antonio College, so that students can attend classes at Northeast Lakeview but enroll at SAC.

Notable Events at NLC

On October 13, 2008, Alan Godin, a librarian at NLC, shot and killed Devin Zimmerman, another librarian, in the library at the Pat Booker campus. Godin was later convicted of first-degree murder.[4][5]
