Now You See Me 2 (internationally known as: Now You See Me: The Second Act) is an upcoming American magic caper thriller film directed by Jon M. Chu. A sequel to the 2013 film Now You See Me, it stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco, with appearances from Daniel Radcliffe, Lizzy Caplan, Jay Chou and Sanaa Lathan; Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman also reprise their roles. It is set for theatrical release on June 10, 2016.[2]

Premise

Set three years after the first film's events ,The Four Horsemen return for a second mind-bending adventure, elevating the limits of stage illusion to new heights and taking them around the globe. One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their Robin Hood-style magic spectacles, the illusionists resurface for a comeback performance in hopes of exposing the unethical practices of a tech magnate. The man behind their vanishing act is none other than Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe), a tech prodigy who threatens the Horsemen into pulling off their most impossible heist yet. Their only hope is to perform one last unprecedented stunt to clear their names and reveal the mastermind behind it all.[3]

On July 3, 2013, after the box office success of the first film, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed that there would be a sequel to the film with production beginning in 2014 for an unspecified release date.[7] In September 2014, it was confirmed that Jon M. Chu would replace Leterrier as director. It is set to be released on June 10, 2016.[8] On October 2, 2014, Michael Caine confirmed in an interview that Daniel Radcliffe would be playing his son in the film and that shooting is expected to begin in December in London.[9] It will also be produced by Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment.[10] In October 2014, it was announced that Isla Fisher would be unable to reprise her role as Henley Reeves due to her pregnancy, thus Lizzy Caplan was cast as new character Lula to replace her as the Fourth Horseman.[11][12] The sequel was thought to be titled Now You See Me: Now You Don't[12] but it was announced in November 2014 that the film changed its title to Now You See Me: The Second Act.[13][14] On January 28, 2015, Henry Lloyd-Hughes was confirmed to play the role of a tech whiz kid as Allen Scott-Frank.[6] On December 22, 2014, it was presumed that Morgan Freeman was not going to reprise his role as Thaddeus Bradley,[15] but on January 19, 2015, film director Chu posted a selfie with Freeman on his Instagram, verifying that he is set to return.[5]

Filming

On November 25, 2014, Mark Ruffalo posted to his Facebook that filming had begun on the sequel.[4] The film is shooting in London, England.[11] On March 11, 2015, shooting began in China, where filming was taken place in Macau and Macao Science Center.[16]

Release

In November 2014, the film was officially titled Now You See Me 2 and is set to be released on June 10, 2016.[4][8] In March 2016, the film's international release date was announced as July 4, 2016 and it is to be co-produced by eOne Films.

Reception

Box office

In the United States and Canada, Now You See Me 2 will open on June 10, 2016 alongside Warcraft and The Conjuring 2, with early projections having the film grossing $25–28 million in its opening weekend.[17][18]

Sequel

On May 22, 2015, Lionsgate revealed the details about the development of another sequel, when CEO Jon Feltheimer announced that they had "already begun early planning for Now You See Me 3."[19]
