Jose Antonio Aguilar (born August 7, 1968), better known as Pepe Aguilar, is an American-born Mexican singer-songwriter and actor, who works in ranchera, mariachi and pop genres.[1][2] He is the son of music and film stars Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre (Guillermina Jiménez). Aguilar has won four Grammy Award and five Latin Grammy Awards.

Career

As a teenager, Aguilar was a rock music fan and had his band called "Equs". The band did not last long, but that led him to make his first album. Aguilar's musical influences were Pink Floyd and The Who among other rock bands.

He decided to become a producer in the 1990s, he produced songs for Lupita D'Alessio, Julieta Venegas, and others.

In 1998, Aguilar released the album Por Mujeres Como Tú, the CD was in Billboard for 52 weeks and has sold two million copies worldwide. In 1999, Aguilar released the album Por Una Mujer Bonita, which won a Latin Grammy. Aguilar has been nominated for the Grammys nine times.

In 2002, Aguilar was the first singer of Mexican descent to sing at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. He was also the first Latino to sing at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. On September 15, 2003 by his Mexican heritage, he celebrated the Mexican War of Independence. Aguilar received the keys of the city of Los Angeles, as previously had his father. An estimated 20,000 people attended the ceremony.

In 2007, Aguilar sang the Mexican national anthem during the pageantry of the Super-Welterweight showdown between Oscar De-la-Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in one of boxing's largest audiences of all time.

To celebrate this and share yet another aspect of his life with his fans, Aguilar is breaking into the fashion world in 2009 launching his Pepe Aguilar Signature Collection through WSS Warehouse Shoe Sale retailer in the United States that will later expand to include a clothing and accessories line for both men and women.

In addition, his dream of helping his native Mexico in some way has given way to an eco-friendly agricultural project in which Aguilar will strengthen and promote the organic production of crops in communities in Zacatecas, utilizing traditional or technology that will have a positive impact on the environment.

With over 16 studio albums plus multiple compilations to his name and millions of records sold, Aguilar’s most recent, Homenaje, pays tribute to the original “Charro de Mexico” (Mexican Rodeo Star): his father, Antonio Aguilar. The album contains 13 songs of the most popular hits made famous by the singer who died in 2008.

Aguilar received the 2,474th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 26, 2012 located at 7060 Hollywood Blvd., which was placed next to the star of his father Antonio.[3]

Aguilar has 4 children, Emiliano, Aneliz, Leonardo, and Angela. Leonardo and Angela released their album on November of 2012
