Primorskaya Oblast (Russian: Примо́рская о́бласть) was an administrative division of the Russian Empire and the early Russian SFSR, created on October 13, 1856 by the Governing Senate.[1] Originally the oblast included the territories of the Kamchatka and Chukchi Peninsulas, the Okhotsk Coast, Priamurye, and the Sakhalin and Kuril Islands; later the Amur River's left bank and Primorye were added.[1] The seat of the oblast was originally in Nikolayevsk-on-Amur, but was later moved to Vladivostok.[1] In 1884, Primorskaya Oblast became a part of the newly formed Priamurye General-Governorship.[1]
Primorskaya Oblast ceased to exist when the Far Eastern Republic was proclaimed in 1920.
