The association was founded in 1945 by Sir Malcolm McAlpine,[1] the third son of Sir Robert McAlpine, 1st Baronet. The organisation now has more than 7,250 members and was a founder member of the Horsemen’s Group, which represents owners, trainers, jockeys, breeders and stable staff.[2] The ROA's current president is Rachel Hood, wife of racehorse trainer John Gosden.[3]
