Sean Ian Reid-Foley (born August 30, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays' organization. He was selected in the second round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft by the Blue Jays. He is ranked 3rd on Major League Baseball's Top 30 Blue Jays prospects list.[1]

Professional career

Reid-Foley was born in Agana Heights, Guam, and played high school baseball for Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Considered the 18th overall prospect[2] heading into the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, he was drafted by the Blue Jays in the second round, 49th overall. Having signed a commitment to Florida State University, he was passed over in the first round due to signability concerns.[3] On June 10, 2014, he signed with the Blue Jays for a bonus of $1.128 million,[4][5] and was expected to join extended spring training in Clearwater.[6] Reid-Foley made his professional debut for the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays on June 27, pitching 23 of an inning and yielding 2 earned runs.[7] He finished the 2014 regular season with a 1–2 record in 9 appearances (6 starts), a 4.76 ERA, and 25 strikeouts in 2223 innings.[8] Reid-Foley was promoted to the Low-A Vancouver Canadians on September 3, 2014, but did not make an appearance during the playoffs.[9]

Reid-Foley began the 2015 season with the Class-A Lansing Lugnuts, and made his debut for the team on April 14, 2015. He started the game, pitching 3 shutout innings and yielding only 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6.[10] He set career highs in innings pitched (523) and strikeouts (10) in a start on May 30 against the Dayton Dragons.[11] His performance earned him a spot on MLB Pipeline's Prospect Team of the Week.[12] In late June, Reid-Foley was promoted to the Advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays. He made his debut on July 5, pitching 5 shutout innings against the Lakeland Flying Tigers.[13] Reid-Foley ended the 2015 season with a 4–10 win–loss record, 4.22 ERA, and 125 strikeouts in 96 innings pitched.[8] He was assigned to the Lansing Lugnuts to open the 2016 minor league season.[14]

Personal life

Reid-Foley was born in Guam while his father, Dave, was assigned there while serving in the United States Coast Guard.[15]

His elder brother David was a catcher at Mercer University, and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an undrafted free agent in 2013.[16] The Dodgers organization converted him into a pitcher in 2014.[15]
