Sheregesh (Russian: Шерегеш) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Tashtagolsky District of Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. Population: 10,173 (2010 Census);[1] 10,371 (2002 Census);[2] 9,553 (1989 Census).[3] Postal code: 652971.

History and economy

It is named after brothers Sheregeshevy, who struck iron ore in 1912. Previously known for its mining industry, it is now one of the most popular winter sports resort where thousands of tourists, from Siberia as well as other regions of Russia, go every winter for snowboarding and skiing. As a rule, the tourist season lasts from November till the end of April.

Weather

The climate of Sheregesh is continental: winters are usually cold and snowy; summers are short and chilly. The snow mantle reaches four meters.
