StoryBots
StoryBots, owned and created by JibJab Media, produces and distributes a collection of web and mobile apps and content designed for children ages 3–8. The StoryBots apps are on the iOS platform and are available via a subscription-based monthly membership.[1]
Description
StoryBots produces apps and content such as “Starring You” videos and books and ABC videos.[2] These apps allow users to insert their child’s face and name into a story or music video, much like a JibJab eCard. Apps designed for parents include “Beep & Boop”[3] (intended to make a game out of teaching good behavior) and Coin Flip[4] (which flips a coin to settle disputes among children). StoryBots launched to the public in the fall of 2012, and has been featured on CNN,[5] The New York Times,[6] CNBC,[7] and other news outlets.[8][9][10][11]
Gregg Spiridellis, co-owner and CEO of StoryBots, told CNBC in 2013 that he and his brother have five young children between them and noticed “a massive shift in how kids are consuming media.”[7] Spiridellis says that became the inspiration for StoryBots, a collection of apps designed to be akin to Sesame Street but for a digital age of iPhones and iPads.
The collection has won awards, including a 2011 Parent’s Choice Award, a 2012 Family Choice Award, a 2013 Appy Award for a Best Book App,[12] and a 2013 Editor's Choice Award from Children's Technology Review.[13]
