Sylvia Carolina Pogorzelski Birnbaum is a beauty pageant participant who has competed in the Miss USA pageant.
Pogorzelski won the Miss New Jersey USA 2005 title in a state pageant held in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey on October 31, 2004.[1] It was her first attempt at the title, although she had previously competed in a Miss Polonia pageant in Chicago.[2]
Pogorzelski represented New Jersey in the Miss USA 2005 pageant broadcast live from Baltimore in April 2005. She did not place in the nationally televised pageant, which was won by Chelsea Cooley of North Carolina.
In late 2005, Pogorzelski passed on her crown to Jessica Boyington of Sicklerville. Boyington placed first runner-up to Pogorzelski in the 2005 event.
Personal life
A first generation American as both of her parents were born in Poland, Pogorzelski was raised in Union Township, Union County, New Jersey and learned Polish from her immigrant parents. She attended Union High School for her freshman year before moving to East Hanover Township, New Jersey, where she attended Hanover Park High School, graduating in 2003.[3]
Pogorzelski studied business administration at Seton Hall University.[4] She wed Jay Birnbaum on August 21, 2010 in New York.[5]
