Ted Sarandos (born c. 1964) is an American businessman. He serves as the Chief Content Officer for Netflix.
Early life
Ted Sarandos was born circa 1964 in Phoenix, Arizona.[1] He attended a community college in Phoenix.[2]
Career
Sarandos started his career by working in a video store.[1] He later worked as an executive for the video distributor ETD and for Video City and West Coast Video.[3]
Sarandos joined Netflix in 2000.[1] He serves as its Chief Content Officer.[3] He uses algorithms to predict what programs viewers will want to watch prior to producing them.[1]
Sarandos serves on the Film Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival.[3] He is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.[3] He was listed on the Time top 100 most influential people in the world in 2013.[4]
Philanthropy
Sarandos serves on the board of trustees of Exploring The Arts, a non-profit organization which supports arts education in public schools in New York City and Los Angeles.[5]
Sarandos was the 2014 recipient of the Humanitarian Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center.[6][7]
Personal life
Sarandos is married to Ambassador Nicole Avant.[3][3] They reside in Beverly Hills, California, and they purchased a beachhouse formerly owned by David Spade in Malibu, California in 2013.[8] With his wife, Sarandos raised US$700,000 for Democratic candidate Barack Obama's 2012 campaign.[8] Sarandos has two children from his previous marriage, Sarah and Tony.
