The Autism Directory is a charitable organisation based in the United Kingdom. It aims to pull together useful resources and information concerning autism in the UK, and signpost it from the directory, to help autism families get the help they need.
Contents
History
The Autism Directory was launched in November 2010 at an Autistic School in Penarth South Wales, Ashgrove Primary, by Assembly Member Janet Ryder.[1] In April 2011 they launched the Cardiff Autism Challenge, which aims to make Cardiff the first Autism Friendly City in the UK.[2] Then in September 2011 The Autism Directory achieved its Charity Status and is now registered with the Charities Commission.
The Directory
The main activity is the directory which categorises the resources and information about autism into 9 categories (found below). The directory is UK wide and is user generated so it relies on suggestions from parents and individuals in local areas to help build the directory.[3]

Parent Approved Mark
The Parent Approved mark is given to any businesses suggested by parents as being autism friendly. They display the mark next to any entries that have been nominated.[4]
Autism Friendly Mark
A continuation of the parent approved mark, the "Autism friendly" mark is awarded to those companies that undergo The Autism Directory's free autism awareness training. It shows that this particular company has a basic awareness of autism and acts as a good indicator to any potential autistic customers.
