The Church of Sainte-Thérèse-de-l'Enfant-Jésus (St. Therese of the Child Jesus), is a building built in Art Deco style in the city of Hirson (France).

History

This church, in basilica with two down-sides and a bell tower is the work of the engineer Aimé Bonna who decides to build at his own expense with the material that made its fortune: reinforced concrete. In the early twentieth century, the city of Hirson becomes the second yard (after Paris). Its population is growing and the church Notre-Dame can not accommodate all this new population. Childless and very attached to his roots, Aimé Bonna decided to build with his expenses the Church of Sainte-Thérèse-de-l'Enfant-Jésus. He acquires the land, finance materials and labor and monitors the construction site which starts on October 3, 1929. This is the Art Deco style that will be retained. Unfortunately, Aimé Bonna died six months before the completion of his ultimate work. A chapel was erected to house the mortal remains of Aimé Bonna (before his funeral in the church of Notre-Dame, Hirson).

Faced with a state of advanced dilapidation and dangerousness, it was decided to deconstruct the campanile Sunday, November 23, 2008. In September 2012, the pianist and composer Anglo-Taiwanese Kit Armstrong purchased the church in order to repeat and to bring artists. With the support of the municipality, he rehabilitates the building. The opening concert takes place June 3, 2014.[1]
