Dimethisterone (INN, USAN, BAN) (brand names Lutagan, Secrosteron), also known as 6α,21-dimethylethisterone, is a steroidal progestin that is used as a hormonal contraceptive in combination with high doses of ethinyl estradiol (100 mcg) under the brand name Oracon.[1][2][3][4] It is a relatively weak progestin,[3] in fact, one of the weakest known,[2] and unlike ethisterone,[5] has no androgenic effects in animals even at very high dosages.[6] Dimethisterone was introduced in the United States as Oracon in 1965.[7]
