Packaging and title
The album was named after the song "My Love", written by Paul and Linda McCartney, which was a #1 hit in 1973 for Paul's group Wings. Although the song is covered by Engelbert on this album, it was not released as a single. "Free As the Wind," which is the theme song to the film Papillon, was released as a single in January 1974[1], and some copies of the US Parrot album have misprinted labels that have this as the album title.[2] It's possible that Free As the Wind was once the planned title of this record.
In Germany, Decca added an extra song to open the album and serve as its title track, the B-side of the "Free As the Wind" single, "My Friend the Wind."[3]
Release
Decca Records released My Love in the UK in January of 1974,[4] and My Friend the Wind in Germany that same year.
Dutton Vocalion reissued the My Love album on August 11, 2009[5] as half of a 2-fer CD, My Love/King of Hearts.
Decca released the album again in 2017 as disc 11 of The Complete Decca Studio Albums.[6]
