Season 1908–09 was the 32nd Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the 10th time and the Scottish Qualifying Cup for the seventh time.

Overview

Dumbarton finished 4th in the Second Division with 25 points, 6 behind champions Abercorn.[1] In the subsequent promotion/relegation 'election' process, the First Division clubs maintained their' top flight' status.

Again qualification for the Scottish Cup proved fruitless, losing to Ayr Parkhouse in the third round of the Scottish Qualifying Cup.

Locally, the Dumbartonshire Cup continued to be played on a league basis. Following the 'league' stage, in a repeat of the previous year, Dumbarton and Renton reached the final, and yet again Dumbarton had to give second best to their rivals.

During the season 2 'friendly' matches were played, recording 1 win and 1 loss, scoring 3 goals and conceding 3.
