Season 1927–28 was the 51st Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the 29th time and the Scottish Cup for the 40th time.

Overview

Dumbarton finished 11th, out of 20, in the Second Division with 36 points - 18 behind champions Ayr United.[1] The highlight of an otherwise unremarkable season was the record-breaking goal scoring of Angus Urquhart, who scored 36 goals in 36 league appearances.

In the Scottish Cup, Dumbarton were knocked out in the first round by Hamilton.

Locally, Dumbarton were runners-up in the Dumbartonshire Cup for the fourth consecutive season, losing out to Clydebank in the final.
